Wheel size:
The jogging stroller wheel and all terrain swivel stroller wheel sizes run from 12” to 16” to 20”. The jogging stroller wheel size that will work best for you will once again be determined by what kind of use you intended for the stroller.
If you are looking for long distance frequent running or off road on a variety of running surfaces then you should consider a unit where the jogging stroller wheel is 20”. This will offer you the most stability and ease of use on these types of surfaces. Since they are larger bicycle type wheels they will also offer a smoother ride for your child.
If you are predominantly looking to jog / speed walk and have only some off road use, then a jogging stroller wheel that is 16” will work very well.
For walking and strolling around town use, 12” wheels will do the job very well.
All 3 sizes on this style stroller offer much better maneuverability and a smoother ride and are easier to push than traditional 4 wheel strollers with smaller wheels.
Wheel and wheel hub Composition:
Many newer model strollers are made with aluminum alloy wheels and hubs. These aluminum alloy components are lighter than their steel counterparts, very sturdy and offer some advantages over the steel wheel. They do not rust! This is a definite advantage in parts of the country where rusting due to salt air or high humidity is an issue. The disadvantage is that they do add more cost to the jogging stroller. Steel wheel and hubs have been in use for a long time but do require more maintenance from time to time to keep them rust free. If you do purchase a stroller with steel wheels be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions to provide a long life to your stroller.
Polymer wheels like the alloy hubs will not rust. These are a special molded hard plastic that is durable and very resilient. Like alloy these are much lighter than the steel wheels and hubs. Polymer wheels are less expensive than their alloy counterparts.
